Active Contours Using Finite Elements to Control Local Scale
نویسندگان
چکیده
Finite elements allow smoothness to be enforced on the measurement of the image-dependent term in active contours. This improves the stability of the solution, with less computational cost than is incurred by increasing the number of elements. Performance is best when the size of the element matches the scale of the image detail sought. This property of Finite elements can be used deliberately to select the scale of the image detail recovered by the active contour. The method offers a way to reduce the sensitivity of active contours to localised noise.

Performance evaluation of modified bentlegPlow using finite element approach
ABSTRACT-This paper aims to develop a new design of a bentleg (BL) plow and to determine its performance as compared to the conventional one using finite element approach. The difference between the modified and conventional BL plows is the direction of angle between the projection of cutting blade on horizontal plane normal to plow shank and the line perpendicular to the plow shank in the same...
متن کاملExtended Finite Element Method for Statics and Vibration Analyses on Cracked Bars and Beams
In this paper, the extended finite element method (XFEM) is employed to investigate the statics and vibration problems of cracked isotropic bars and beams. Three kinds of elements namely the standard, the blended and the enriched elements are utilized to discretize the structure and model cracks. Two techniques referred as the increase of the number of Gauss integration points and the rectangle...
متن کاملContour integration and scale combination processes in visual edge detection.
Contours in the natural visual environment consist mainly of edges which are spatially broad-band and whose (cosinusoidal) components have arrival phases close to +/-90 deg. Because early visual processing is thought to be based on a local Fourier description, the representation of edges requires two forms of filter combination: scale integration (filter combination across spatial frequency) an...
متن کاملInhomogeneity Image Segmentation with Optimal Spatial Scale
A novel local region-based active contour model is proposed to segment medical images with intensity inhomogeneities and various noises. The contribution of the proposed work is twofold. First, the anisotropy of evolution contours is exploited to characterize the local classification information around each pixel. Integrating it with local gray intensity information, the new model stabilizes th...
متن کاملTorsion Analysis of High-Rise Buildings using Quadrilateral Panel Elements with Drilling D.O.F.s
Generally, the finite element method is a powerful procedure for analysis of tall buildings. Yet, it should be noted that there are some problems in the application of many finite elements to the analysis of tall building structures. The presence of artificial flexure and parasitic shear effects in many lower order plane stress and membrane elements, cause the numerical procedure to converge in...
